Google Interactive Spaces
While at the LAB at Rockwell Group we had the pleasure of developing a number of platforms for creating interactive spaces. One of which was a collaboration with Google named simply Google Interactive Spaces. This project built on the ideas we had built in the Environmental Choreography System which powers the interactive features at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
What does it mean to make spaces more interactive?
With the development of digital technologies, the ability to rapidly manipulate the data and presentation of our content has become increasingly fast. However most of our built environments have not kept up with this flexibility. In designing the Google Interactive Spaces platform the goal was to have all of the technologies of the space on a high speed pub / sub network where the operators of the space could quickly make requests to change all of the screens in the space or easily funnel the input of a sensor to the applications in the environment. The experiential goal was to be able to rapidly change the space for the type of activities that were happening in the space. From an administrative interface the facilitator can quickly change the feel and purpose of a room. Individuals experiencing the space can control it through various inputs the space provides.
